BAG DAY SALE!

tl_files/content/calendar/2011/bagday.png Can you believe Thanksgiving is next week? In Northampton, Thanksgiving means a lovely holiday spent with family and friends, but it's also a sure sign that the annual BAG DAY SALE is happening once again on Sat before Thanksgiving in downtown Northampton.

The sale works like this.  You get a shopping bag that is distributed in the local paper, Daily Hampshire Gazette, and you get 20% off one item at any of the participating retailers, which totals to over 40 stores.  It's a lot of fun and it's the only sale we have during this holiday season.

We're open special hours 9:30-8pm this Saturday.  Come join us and get an early start on your holiday shopping!

new for fall!

It's almost October and we have definitely entered the fall season.  The air is cooler, the leaves are changing color and it's apple-picking season!  There are many things to love about autumn in the Valley, one of which is the array of new merchandise we have at the dmg.  Here are a couple of my favorites you will see this fall.

Adel Chefridi is new to the dmg this month.  His jewelry is superb.  It's delicate, harmonious and conjures up an old-world feel, which I adore.  We carry a line of his sterling silver and two-tone earrings, necklaces, and rings with diamonds, sapphires, and rubies.

Rossheim/Marrinson Studios is returning to the dmg this fall. I love the simplicity, the eye-catching color combinations, and the subtle textures in their ceramic bowls.
And there are so much more to see instore! Come check us out next time you're in the neighborhood.

Nelles Studio

Having twin toddlers, I have a lot of toys in my house.  Sometimes, I find myself pausing to look at the toys, feeling nostalgic and remembering the good old days of childhood.

I walked by Scott Nelles' booth at a wholesale craft show back in Feb and was immediately drawn to his whimsical bronze sculptures (some are coin banks!).  His pieces are playful, yet they carry a level of sophistication that I like.  I thought the sculptures would bring a sense of humor to the gallery, and fill a niche that I felt was missing in my store.

His collection includes a flying piggy bank (on wheels), 'Bob' the robot, cars, and even a cowboy on bass fish!  Yee-haw!

Drumm roll please....we have a new storefront sign at the dmg!  What do you think?  I kept it real simple with just our logo.

Thanks to Sam at Porcupine Sign & Design for the beautiful sign, as well as to Construct Associates for their work.  Couldn't be happier!  Love, love, love :)

Hope you have a chance to check it out in person! Come see what's inside too.  New merchandise arriving daily!

glass demo!

The second event in our dmg summer series is the live glass demo with local artist Raj Kommineni.  Raj's work is one of my favorites when it comes to flameworked glass.  His marbles are hypnotic; there is also a level of delicacy in them that I love.

Raj will be demonstrating the making of his glass marbles just outside the gallery this Sat from 12-6pm.  There will also be a reception for Arts Night Out on Fri from 5-7pm.  Meet the artist, see his extended collection and watch the flameworker in action.  We will also be giving away one of Raj's beautiful marbles during the event!  Don't miss it!

Vegas!

I'm here in Vegas at both the JCK and Couture jewelry shows to find new designers for the gallery and reconnect with current ones.  Aside from terrible motion sickness I had on the flight over, it's been a great trip thus far!

At JCK, I picked up Pyrrha, a line of handcrafted silver and bronze talisman pendants made from 18th and 19th century wax seals.  The Vancouver designers, Wade Papin and Danielle Wilmore, utilize lost wax casting to create these pendants rich in symbolism. I love that there's a meaning behind each seal, as well as the rustic look of the pieces. I've been eyeing Pyrrha for over a year now, so I'm thrilled to welcome the collection this summer!

At Couture, I picked up a beautiful new gold line by Sara Freedenfeld, Amali Jewelry.  I've been coveting Sara's work for years, so I'm very excited to have her join the dmg family!  I love Sara's use of gold chains as a design element and her choice of stones!

In addition, I reordered from some of our favorites including Kelim, Toby Pomeroy, and Sethi Couture.  Now off to the pool :)

Anne Sportun Jewelry

Spring is here and so is the new collection from one of my favorite designers, Anne Sportun. We have Anne's popular gemstone wrap bracelets in various stones including pyrite, green onyx, iolite, and lapis.  What's great about the wraps is that they can be worn as either a bracelet or a necklace. I have two of these myself: one in pyrite and one in pink sapphire. They are my go-to pieces as they are super wearable and fun to layer!

In addition to the wraps, we have new gold earrings and necklaces from Anne that are adorned with beautiful colored stones such as aquamarine, moonstone, sapphire, and peruvian chalcedony, as well as classic pieces with diamonds.

So come celebrate spring at the dmg with a gorgeous new piece from Anne Sportun!  See you real soon :)

celebrate spring with ayala bar

Spring is finally here! It's so nice to be able to walk out the door without bundling up. Love it when the sun pours down on my face :)

Speaking of spring, we now have the new spring collection from Ayala Bar.  Ayala Bar has been a favorite of dmg customers for many many years.  We were carrying her line when I first started working at the dmg.  That was fourteen years ago and her jewelry is still one of the most popular lines I represent!

Ayala's jewelry, which includes earrings, necklaces, and bracelets, is like wearable mosaics.  With its beautiful colors and designs, the jewelry captures an aesthetic that is truly unique.  It obtains an element of romanticism that appeals to many women of various ages and fashion styles.

Go bold this spring and summer with a piece by Ayala.  Dress it down with a white t-shirt and jeans or dress it up with a cute dress.

Bridal Jewelry Show

Our annual Bridal Jewelry Show is fast approaching! The event is next weekend, March 29 and 30 and we are featuring four amazing designers: Ananda Khalsa, Chris Ploof, Sholdt Design, and Tobi Sznajderman.  The artists will showcase their entire bridal collection including engagement rings and wedding bands.  This event is also a perfect opportunity for you to reset your own stone or to discuss custom design with our in-house designer.  What's more, we are offering a 15% discount on ring orders by the featured artists!

The event is also an all-encompassing bridal show where you can explore other local wedding vendors. We'll have a table filled with information from various spas, stationers, photographers and much more!  Forget Me Not Florist will adorn the gallery with beautiful floral arrangements and Cupcake Closet will provide yummy cake pops and cutting cake!  Thank you to both Bridal Heirlooms and J. Rich for lending us the beautiful couple for the front window too :)

Wait, there's more!  We have giveaways from many local businesses such as Suki skincare, Tranquility Day Spa, Delaney House, and Dani Fine Photography. This weekend, purchase your ring(s), eat and drink merry, and win some prizes!

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

I just got back from another successful buying trip.  This time I headed further south to Baltimore, where the temperature was slightly warmer with hardly any snow left on the ground. It was enough to make me smile :)

Rossheim & Marrinson
The American Craft Council show was great.  I reordered from our favorites such as Anne Sportun, Scott Pernicka and Studio Paran.  I rediscovered Rossheim and Marrinson, whose beautiful work we represented at the gallery in the past.  Their ceramic vessels with their bold colors, simple forms, and textures will brighten up your day!

Mark Gardner
The new comers to the gallery from this show include Mark Gardner and David Levy.  Mark makes wooden salad bowls with milk paint finishes that are simple and modern.  David creates a line of game boards such as dominoes, backgammon, and cribbage. I've been in search of wooden bowls and games for a long time, so it was great to find them both.  I'm very excited that they are joining the dmg family!

To your heart's content

I love hearts.  The shape, the colors {pink and red} often associated with them, and their sweet symbolic meaning.  Here are some of my favorite "hearts" at the dmg, just in time for Valentine's Day!

Just in are these charming glass heart-shaped paperweights by Bob Burch.  Bob's been blowing glass since 1971 and his pieces are works of outstanding artistry.  The hearts are available in various sizes and colors.  A beautiful choice for that special someone in your life!

Also in stock are Liz Ryan's sterling silver envelope necklaces with hearts, which can be customized with your personal  message engraved on the back.  We also carry her heart studs and rings for added sweetness

And how about popping the question this Valentine's Day with MaeVona's Iris ring with the heart-shaped prongs?  Yes, I said "heart-shaped" prongs!  What better way to say "I love you" than with a diamond engagement ring surrounded by hearts?

As you can see, we have lots of ideas on how you can say "I love you" this Valentine's Day!  See you soon <3 <3 <3

What's in store

I just returned from the BMAC show in Philly.  It's a trade show where more than 700 artists come together to wholesale their products to buyers.  It's great fun; I get to see familiar faces and meet new ones and experience the products first hand.  It's great to see so many talents under one roof and to make merchandise decisions for the gallery.

Delish Glass
I reordered from many of your favorites including Matsu, Deb Brilla & Blackthorne Forge.  I also picked up a handful of new artists in jewelry and glass. What's to come this year: beautiful vases, bowls and pens by Delish Glass, cool leather bracelets and watches by Vintage Liz, beautifully woven jewelry by Michelle Pressler and much more!

Michelle Pressler

Sadly, the show moves from Philly to DC next year.  I'll miss going to the Reading Terminal Market!  I had my first and last Philly cheesesteak this year :)

Cheesesteak, baby!

Happy New Year!

Jamie Cassavoy
I hope you had a wonderful holiday!  Here in Noho, we are chilling after a busy season and enjoying the first snowstorm of 2014.

We were busy little elves this season, wrapping hundreds of beautiful, handcrafted gifts that our customers selected for their loved ones. A few of the "hot" jewelry items this holiday included the ultra modern, matte silver pieces by Kelim, the nature-inspired two-toned and silver beauties by Jamie Cassavoy, and the edgy, oxidized silver and diamond jewelry by Chihiro Makio.

Little River Hotglass

Amongst the most popular in non-jewelry items were the lovely ceramic pieces by Laura Zindel.  Her mugs, bowls, sugar & creamer were a huge hit this year!  Glass favorites were the oil & vinegar bottles by Drayton Glassworks, vases and ornaments by Little River Hotglass, and stemware by Rosetree Glass.
Laura Zindel

This year, there'll be even more exciting merchandise and we have great special events planned too! Thank you for your continued support of the dmg and we look forward to serving you again for all your gift giving and wedding needs this year :)
